Customer Review: Comparison with the Nelson 3000F Oscillating Sprinkler

The Gardena Aquazoom moves like a quiet metronome putting down rain gently and slowly. You would think by its name that it was some kind of racecar. By comparison, my popular Nelson 3000F oscillating sprinkler (over 10 years old) swings more rapidly, wildly and puts out a heavier soaking. If you can't wait hours to water the lawn, the Nelson is definitely for you. It drenches everything. The Gardena has less runoff after watering the lawn.
The Nelson oscillator outperforms any pattern sprinkler on a narrow slice of lawn measuring 4 ft. by 26 ft. When I set the two pinch-tabs together, the spray will stand tall and shimmy for me. The Gardena cannot do that. Its tabs are set too far apart to do the dance.
Oh well... the Gardena has its own surprise feature. When the water faucet is turned on just slightly, the sprinkler will oscillate like a miniature Niagara Falls over a 2 ft. by 2 ft. area. As the water's flow is increased, the spray will gradually become taller, wider and longer (same ratio in a rectangular or square pattern). This feature is great for small flower beds close to the house. The water does not shoot out at the windows or high up into the eaves. The Nelson sprinkler cannot oscillate with low water flow. It only performs with a tall spray and the same width. Not negotiable.
Both sprinklers have 16 spray jets. The Gardena's tabs slide more easily than the Nelson's. Overall, the Gardena is the better choice for a small flower garden because of its precision and gentle spray. It puts the water exactly where you want it with even coverage. The Gardena is made in Germany and comes with a two year warrantee.
